Iron Man - Christian Movie Review

A review of the movie, Iron Man from a Christian perspective.

Movie Title: Iron Man
Rating: PG-13
Director: Jon Favreau
Staring: Robert Downey Jr.; Jeff Bridges; Terrence Howard; and Gwyneth Paltrow
Category: Action

Iron Man

Christian Perspective Rating: 4 out of a possible 5 stars

Iron Man - Christian Movie Review

Intro: Iron Man is a humorous action packed film based on the Marvel Comic, Iron Man.

Review: Tony Stark is the star player in this movie. He is a man with no real substance in his character. he is a womanizer, gambler and an ego maniac...until he encounters some reality in the form of a terrorist kidnapping. This is where he learns what is really going on and becomes iron man.

Iron Man is a very well made movie. There is a lot of comedy and lessons learned. Tony comes back from his horrifying experience with a change of heart and a new and better mission.

I was very impressed with this film and how there was minimal language and sexuality. However, not all of it was left out...

Cons: Tony Stark is a playboy. With that brings the usual not so modestly dressed women, some kissing, and a short bed scene. Nothing way out there or worth not seeing the film.

There is a lot of violence and death. However, that is what all action films have. The language was surprisingly low key. There were scatterings of he**, bi***, and da**. Nothing too bad. They kept it kid friendly.

I would steer clear of the deleted scenes. There are some VERY bad scenes in there and a LOT more sexual content. I am VERY happy they were left out of the film!

Conclusion: While there are some questionable scenes and the film is not perfect, I think Iron Man is a good film that shows a moral compass and willingness to change your heart and do the right thing. Robert Downey Jr. was perfect for the role of Tony Stark and I am looking forward to Iron Man 2.

If you let the credits roll, at the very end there is an opening for Iron Man 2.

'Underground Hypnosis' - a Review of Taylor Starr's 'Underground Hypnosis' Course

The Underground Hypnosis course has been getting a lot of online attention lately. I usually try to review dating and seduction related programs, but I feel there is quite a bit of info in this program that is directly applicable to success with attraction and dating, so I want my readers to be aware of it.

First of all, I want to say that I believe this product to be way over-hyped and over-promoted. It's promoted as a hush-hush secret society type of thing. Like the author's life is in danger for revealing all these secrets. Yes, it's powerful. No, there aren't many people who know about it, but this is what I like to call "hype." Although the info is powerful, it's not quite as serious as the marketing makes it sound. The marketing doesn't really fit the product. It isn't even really about hypnosis. Yes, it uses a few hypnotic principles and techniques, but the main focus of the course is about social control and influence. It's more about being able to get others to follow you, being able to persuade others using certain psychological tools. I would classify it more as advanced persuasion tactics.

Iron Man

All that being said, the course does have its merits. Although called Underground Hypnosis, it is actually about a field called Black Opps by the author, Taylor Starr. It's actually a combination of techniques from the NLP, Hypnosis, Social Engineering, and Seduction communities. And this combination does present some very powerful persuasion techniques.

'Underground Hypnosis' - a Review of Taylor Starr's 'Underground Hypnosis' Course

The main strength of this program lies in a group of three techniques called The Majors: the Iron Man Pattern, the Black Mirror Operation, and the No Cleaver Technique. The Iron Man Pattern is used to gain instant confidence and social status. The Black Mirror is a way to get anyone to like you in a matter of minutes. Last, but not least, the No Cleaver Technique is actually dropping someone into a trance state, guiding and influencing them to achieve your goals. They can be used individually or in combination depending on the needs of the interaction. While some of the methods are a little bit off the wall, they do work and they work very well. Something I found really useful was a part of the Black Mirror technique called strings. It's basically a mental operation you perform during a conversation that allows you to keep the conversation going and steer it in the direction you want it to go. It's a simple tool, but a very effective one.

Another section of Underground Hypnosis that I really like and use in my daily life comes from the section entitled "Social Engineering King: Becoming the Alpha." I found a lot of useful information in there, and it is directly related to success with women, which is why I want to talk about it here. A key concept of this section is that the group, not the alpha, decides who gets alpha status. Therefore, if the group changes its collective mind, a new person can be alpha. So you never have to compete with an alpha directly, you simply have to get the group to like you more and follow you instead. Surprisingly, this is really easy to do with the steps provided in this section. Taylor Starr goes step-by-step through the process of entering a group, building rapport with the group, and ultimately overtaking alpha status. He doesn't go into a lot of detail about things like obtaining the alpha mindset or using dominant body language, mostly just conversational tactics. For more on that I would suggest How to Become an Alpha Male by John Alexander. (click here for my review of that product.)

With four full hours of audio instruction, this course has quite a bit of information. And it's good for the most part. However, don't expect to get much of anything from the bonuses. Actually, I think they cheapen the course rather than add to it. Also, don't expect to learn real hypnosis from this course. If you are interested in a real hypnosis course, check out How to Hypnotize by Steven Hall. Also, there is a super advanced hypnosis course called Conversational Hypnosis. It teaches real covert hypnosis techniques, and although it costs twice as much as Underground Hypnosis, it has four times the amount of material.

I've dogged on Underground Hypnosis a lot here (because I want to be completely honest with my readers), but it does shine is some places. Its hypey and over the top, but to its credit, it really does have the power to change every interaction you have for the rest of your life. The Alpha section and the Majors are top notch, in my opinion. If it sounds like what you're after, take a look and check it out.

Movie Review - Iron Man

If Iron Man is any indication, this summer could be one of the best ever for movie buffs. The first movie of the summer tends to set the tone, and Iron Man has stormed out of the gates, earning rave reviews from both fans and critics, and washing the bad taste of last summer's big May movie, Spider-Man 3, out of all of our mouths.

Iron Man is a Marvel comic book character that made his debut in 1963. The character is still alive and kicking in the comic book world, most recently as a central figure in Marvel's Civil War mini series, as a member of the Mighty Avengers, and in two of his own monthly comic books.

Iron Man

Comic book fans have been anxiously awaiting the Iron Man movie ever since the cast was announced, and, especially after some footage was screened at the 2007 San Diego Comic Con. Well, the wait is over, and the movie is absolutely worth the wait!

Movie Review - Iron Man

Robert Downey, Jr., plays Tony Stark, a billionaire industrialist who has made a fortune developing weapons for the US government. He lives a lavish playboy lifestyle, with a scotch in one hand and a super model at his side. While in the Middle East for a weapons demo for the US government, his convoy is attacked and he is taken prisoner by bad guys using his company's weapons. The bombing results in shrapnel slowly destroying his heart, so another captive, (a scientist/surgeon no less), hooks him up to a car battery and creates an electro-magnet to keep the pieces from killing him. Stark's captors want him to build missiles for them, but he has other plans.

Long story short, Stark creates a suit of armor that helps him escape. Back in the U.S. and still reeling from the fact that his weapons have fallen into the hands of the enemy, he swears off weapons manufacturing and goes to work on a new suit of armor that will help him defeat the bad guys. Little does he know that the baddest of the bad is one of his closest friends, (see the movie to find out who it is).

Iron Man is one of the best super hero movies ever for a variety of reasons: First, Robert Downey, Jr., was born to play Tony Stark and he steals the film. He brings humor, drama and action to Tony Stark/Iron Man, and makes him a character that the audience can care about and identify with. He is surrounded by an A-list supporting cast, including Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, (Stark's assistant), Terrence Howard, as his friend, Jim Rhodes, and Jeff Bridges and his mentor, Obediah Stane. All of these actors bring their comic book characters to glorious life on the big screen.

The story is simple, yet compelling, thanks to a great script and dialogue. There are some great moments for comic book fans, but you don't have to be a fanboy or girl to dig the movie. *Note to comic book fans and regular viewers alike, make sure that you stay in the theater through the end of the credits for a very cool cameo that sets the stage for future Marvel movies.

The special effects are outstanding, most notably the Iron Man armor developed by Stan Winston Studios, (Aliens, Predator, Terminator, Jurassic Park). There is nothing that looks fake or hokey. The action sequences are well done and thrilling.

The one chink in Iron Man's armor could be the music. The score is cookie-cutter Hans Zimmer fare, similar to what you would hear in many Jerry Bruckheimer films. There really is no Iron Man "theme," but the score does function fairly well as background music and helps move the action forward.

This is the first movie financed completely by Marvel under their new Marvel Studios division, and it's a home-run. One of the cool things that this sets up is the possible interaction among different Marvel properties in the same film, since certain characters are in films under the Marvel Studios banner. There are rumors flying that Tony Stark shows up in The Incredible Hulk, (another Marvel Studios film), due in June. And, Marvel announced future Marvel Studios projects this week, including Iron Man 2 and Thor in 2010 and Captain America and an Avengers film in 2011. The future looks bright for Marvel Studios and comic book fans.

Iron Man is rated PG-13 for language and violence and gets a solid "A" rating from me.

Iron Man 2 Review

The sequel becomes the first topic of conversation after a movie, especially a super hero film, has great reviews and even greater box office. Such was the case for the first Iron Man movie. Most people weren't expecting such a perfect origin story, incredible acting, outstanding special effects and (most shocking of all) that Robert Downey Jr. became Tony Stark. After such a spectacular beginning, talk started immediately about the second film and when it would appear in the grand scheme of Marvel's plans for an Avenger film. Would it come before all of the other Marvel film or after the Thor and Captain America films were released? Well, that question has been answered after Iron Man 2 was released this past weekend and sets us up perfectly for Iron Man's participation in the Avenger initiative.

At the end of the first Iron Man film, we witnessed Tony Stark telling the world that he was in fact Iron Man. This sort of thing is unheard of. No super hero reveals his secret identity to the world for fear that their enemies will come after their loved ones and family. So, now that Tony Stark and Iron Man are proven to be the same person, what will that do to Tony's life and the people in it? This is the main question faced in this movie and it is a brilliant question indeed. How will this affect his business? Will he attract more enemies purely because he is Iron Man? Will he be able to keep his friends safe? Can he do it alone? Each of these complex issues is brought up in this second Iron Man film.

Iron Man

At the beginning of the film we are introduced to Ivan Vanko as he sits with his father Anton on his deathbed. The father Anton worked with Tony's father Howard to produce the Arc reactor that was introduced in the first film and is the technology in Tony's chest. Ivan's father was never given due credit for helping to create this technology and it left the Vanko family poor and wanting revenge for this betrayal. After Anton dies, Ivan sees that Tony is Iron Man and he decides to use his dad's technology to create a suit for himself to take his revenge on the Stark family. Once he builds his suit, that has whips made out of electricity, he is known as Whiplash.

Iron Man 2 Review

Meanwhile, Tony is dealing with his own issues. The government, after finding out that he is Iron Man, has stated that he needs to release his suit to them for government purposes. Stark industries won government contracts for defense weapons and they feel that the suit is now property of the government. Stark is not letting go of his suit stating that he and Iron Man are one and the same and it is his technology no matter his ties to the government contracts. All of this builds up to battles against both the government and their need for his technology and Whiplash who is strictly seeking revenge.

All in all, this is a terrific sequel that takes the best parts of the first film and expands on them. I wouldn't say that this film is any better than the first, but it is certainly equal to it in my opinion. This has also helped to raise my hopes for the upcoming movies by leaps and bounds. You can really see that they are trying to create continuity between all of their films. Also, be sure to stay in the theater through the end of the credit and you'll be treated to a nice surprise!
