What Are The Causes Of Hair Loss In People Today?

On average you can expect to lose between 50 and 100 hairs from your head each day and shouldn't be something that you should be overly concerned about. However if you begin to notice even more than this being lost then you may need to see medical assistance to determine exactly what is causing you to loss your hair. Today there are a number of causes of hair loss and below we take a brief look at just what some of these are.

Cause 1 - Stress

Iron Man

Both mental and physical stress can cause you to lose hair and will generally happen around 2 or 3 months after the stressful period or event has begun. The reason that hair may be lost is that the hair follicles will enter the telogen phase much sooner than is normal. As a result you won't actually begin to grow any new hair once the old hair has been shed. However once the problem of stress has been removed from your life you will find that this will stop and new hair will begin to grow in place of that lost once more.

What Are The Causes Of Hair Loss In People Today?

Cause 2 - Medication

There are many types of medication that could be a contributing factor to you noticing that you are losing a lot more hair than is normal. However the problem may not arise immediately but could actually happen after you have been taking the medication for any length of time. If you don't notice this problem then you should immediately seek medical assistance.

The kinds of medications, which could be one of the main causes of hair loss in a person, include the likes of anti acne ones such as Isotretinoin, medications for lowering lipid levels such as bezafibrate. Plus also medications used as inhibitors for blood pressure or heart failure or to regulate blood pressure could be the reason that hair loss has become more noticeable. These are just a few but a quick search online and you will find that there are plenty of other medications that could be a leading factor to hair loss.

Cause 3 - Skin Disorders

There are certain types of skin disorders such as psoriasis which could be the reason for losing more hair than is considered to be normal. But normally once treatment commences on the skin disorder then the hair will start to regrow.

Cause 4 - Testosterone

The male testosterone has been found to be an indirect cause of hair loss in men today. Rather than the body reacting because the levels of testosterone in the man's body being too high hair loss occurs because the body has become more sensitive to the production of it. Normally the place where hair loss tends to be most visible on a guy where the cause of it is testosterone is on top and on the front of the head.

Cause 5 - Genetics

The chances of a person suffering hair loss are far greater if any of their relatives happen to be bald. A person can actually inherit it not only from their father's side of the family but also their mothers.

Cause 6 - Age

As we grow older the risk of us losing hair is far greater. At the age of 35 around 40% of all men will notice that they have far less hair than they did have before. Then as a man grows older this figure increases and on average around 65% of all men over the age of 60 will lose more hair. But rather than them losing hair it tends to become much finer and thinner in appearance.

Cause 7 - Menopause

As women grow older and certainly when they reach the menopause they are again at risking of losing more hair than is normal. But as mentioned above rather than hair falling out what happens is it becomes much thinner ad finer. Around 50% of women over the age of 50 will find that their hair has become a great deal thinner.

Cause 8 - Iron Deficiency

If levels of iron within your body are depleted there is every possibility that you will suffer from hair loss. This again is one of the causes of hair loss that women are more likely to suffer from than men. However to rectify the problem taking an iron supplement can help with reversing the situation.

Cause 9 - Pregnancy and Child Birth

Although during the pregnancy there doesn't seem to be much hair loss occurring, it is quite common for women to lose hair for a few months after the birth of their child. Generally with this particular cause the hair will begin to start to grow back of its own accord as hormone levels within the woman's body start to return back to normal.

Above we have looked at the main causes of hair loss today, however there are plenty of others that need to be considered. Your hair loss could in fact be down to the kinds of products you are using which contain ingredients that may cause an allergic reaction in you. Also the way in which your hair is worn may cause hair loss especially in cases where the hair is being pulled too tight.

Only when you know exactly what has caused you to begin losing hair can you then look at ways of treating it. But before you try any treatments you see advertised online or in magazines or newspapers it is important that you seek medical advice first. This way the medical professional can take a look at what the underlying causes of hair loss in you are and treat them accordingly. Also it is important to remember that there is no quick fix solution to treating this condition and certainly anyone who says that they can offer you a miracle cure to your problem you shouldn't believe what they have to say.

International Marketing and Advertising Translation - The Top 20 Blunders, Mistakes and Failures

Writing copy or coming up with brand names for international markets is a tricky business. I know - I do it myself. It's essential that a native speaker checks any translated copy before it's let loose on the public. Sometimes, though, even the biggest of brands can get it wrong. Here are the top 20 translation (t)errors I've come across:

1. Pepsi's "Come alive with the Pepsi Generation" translated into Chinese became "Pepsi brings your ancestors back from the grave".

Iron Man

2. An American T-shirt maker in Miami printed shirts for the Spanish market which promoted the Pope's visit. Instead of "I saw the Pope" (el Papa), the shirts read "I saw the potato" (la papa).

International Marketing and Advertising Translation - The Top 20 Blunders, Mistakes and Failures

3. The Big Mac was originally sold in France under the name Gros Mec. In French, that translates as 'big pimp'.

4. Schweppes Tonic Water was translated into Italian as "Schweppes Toilet Water." Oh Scchh*t!

5. The Coors slogan "Turn it loose," in Spanish became "Suffer from diarrhoea."

6. Cars seem to offer a particular blind spot for advertisers. My favourite is the Chevrolet Nova. In the UK, it's the Vauxhall Nova. No problem there, but in Spain the Nova wasn't quite so popular. 'No va' means 'doesn't go'.

7. GM cars: Originally sold in Belgium using the slogan, "Body by Fisher," which translated as "Corpse by Fisher."

8. Not to be outdone, Ford marketed the Ford Caliente in Mexico, until they found out "caliente" is slang for 'streetwalker' and changed its name to S-22.

9. Even as grand a brand as Rolls Royce can make mistakes. The Rolls-Royce Silver Mist never sold well in Germany. Perhaps because In German, mist means "human waste."

10. Clairol fell...erm foul of the same problem when they introduced the "Mist Stick," a curling iron, into Germany.

11. Sometimes you can still get it wrong even when words aren't involved. When Gerber started selling baby food in Africa, they used the same packaging as in the US, with the beautiful baby on the label. Later they learned that in Africa, companies routinely put pictures on the label of what's inside, since most people can't read English.

12. The US Dairy Association's huge success with the campaign "Got Milk?" prompted them to expand advertising to Mexico. It was soon brought to their attention that the Spanish translation read "Are you lactating?"

13. The slogan for Frank Perdue chicken products "it takes a strong man to make a tender chicken" was translated into Spanish as "it takes an aroused man to make a chicken affectionate."

14. Cue toothpaste was sold in France by Colgate-Palmolive... until they learned that Cue was also the name of a well-known porn magazine.

15. When Parker Pens marketed a ballpoint pen in Mexico, its ads were supposed to have read: "it won't leak in your pocket and embarrass you". Unfortunately, the company thought that the word "embarazar" (to impregnate) meant to embarrass, so the ads read: "It won't leak in your pocket and make you pregnant."

16. Still on pens, Parker had a model called The Jotter. This rather bemused consumers in some South American countries, where jotter is slang for 'jockstrap'.

17. When American Airlines wanted to advertise its new leather first class seats in the Mexican market, it translated its "Fly In Leather" campaign literally. Unfortunately, 'vuela en cuero' translated as 'fly naked'.

18. For some reason, Puffs Tissues failed to clean up in Germany. Then someone realized that Puff is German slang for 'brothel'.

19. The American slogan for Salem cigarettes, 'Salem - Feeling Free', was translated for the Japanese market as: "When smoking Salem, you will feel so refreshed that your mind seems to be free and empty."

20. Finally, here's one just to show how marketers can get it wrong even when dealing with the (supposedly) same language. Following great success with a tagline in the UK, Scandinavian vacuum manufacturer Electrolux decided to use it in America, not realizing the alternative meaning there of a key word: 'Nothing sucks like an Electrolux.' Well, the sales certainly did....

The 5 Moments

When editing a movie or organizing the story structure of a screenplay, do filmmakers follow a structural plan involving 5 moments? What if they did? Would you want to know about the 5 moments?

The next time you watch a good movie, notice what happens at 25 minutes into the film, 45 minutes into the film, 60 minutes into the film, 45 minutes before the film ends, and 25 minutes before the film ends: 25 45 60 -45 -25. Calculate -45 and -25 when the story ends, not when the final credits end.

Iron Man

Notice how movie professionals seem to place their most important moments at 25 45 60 -45 -25:

The 5 Moments

25 minutes into The Bourne Ultimatum the CIA finds Bourne and issues an order to kill him. 45 minutes into Straight Time Dustin Hoffman steals a car and handcuffs his parole officer to a fence on the freeway. 60 minutes into Iron Man Tony Stark flies around the room and says "Yeah, I can fly." 45 minutes before Schindler's List ends, Ben Kingsley's character Itzhak Stern holds up the list and says "The list is an absolute good. The list is life." 25 minutes before Transformers ends a Decepticon crashes through a bus on the freeway.

In the above films, 25 45 60 -45 -25 are pivotal moments, inspirational, entertaining, emotionally turbulent moments that helped the screenwriter and filmmaker persuade the audience to care about their characters and what happens to them.

The 5 moments in Iron Man:

25: Tony Stark is in the cave, he examines a metal ring used to create the mini arc reactor that will fit in his chest. Soon, the light of the arc reactor turns on, his new power source is born. The birth of something new.

45: An emotionally intense Tony Stark tells the press he never said good-bye to his father. He declares that because his weapons have fallen into the wrong hands he's shutting down his company's weapons production. Now that I'm aware.

60: He's flying around the room, struggling to control his power, and he succeeds: "Yeah, I can fly." He's making real progress, there's no going back to the drawing board. There's no going back now.

-45 (1:57 - 45 = 1:12 into the film) Tony receives new information about a besieged village from a reporter, learns more about the situation and escalates his action: he flies to the village and starts rescuing people. Discovery.

-25 (1:57 - 25 = 1:32 into the film) Pepper discovers the video that proves Obadiah Stane wants Tony dead. Final turning point.

In every good film and screenplay you'll find these 5 moments:

25: The birth of something new.
45: Now that I'm aware.
60: There's no going back now.
-45: Discovery.
-25: The final turning point.

The symmetry of 25 45 60 -45 -25 obeys a dynamic truth of nature: What goes up, must come down. So it is in the beginning, so it is in the end: 25 45 60 -45 -25.

You'll find the 5 moments in all your old favorites. Examine the following 5 moments in Romancing the Stone, and notice that -45 comes before 60 because Romancing the Stone lasts an hour and forty-three minutes: 1:43 subtracted by 45 means 58 comes before 60.

25: Joan is alone on a mountainous road, the antagonist walks into frame, pulls out a gun and aims it at her. Jack Colton arrives and discharges a barrage of gunfire to chase away the antagonist. 25 is where the heroine is confronted by the antagonist and where the love affair begins. The birth of something new.

45: Joan and Jack sit in a torn up cargo plane. Jack offers Joan a bottle of tequila and wants to become aware of why Joan left NYC for Columbia. Joan lies about why she's in Columbia. Within two minutes Jack finds the treasure map, a discovery that ignites future turbulence between Jack and Joan. Now that I'm Aware.

-45: (1:43 - 45 minutes = 58 minutes into the film) The ally with the monster truck opens the door and asks, "You are Joan Wilder, the novelist?" An almost unbelievable coincidence but since we love Joan and Jack we don't care. Because Juan (Alfonso Arau) learns Joan writes the books he loves he lets them in. Discovery.

60: Joan and Jack tour Juan's home and within minutes they're in a monster truck that jumps over a stream to escape the antagonists. There's no going back now.

-25: (1:43 - 25 minutes = 1:18) Joan and Jack reach Mother's Milk, a small pool where they find the green diamond. The final turning point.

Knowing where the 5 pivotal moments belong in a screenplay will fundamentally change how you look at movies and how you read and write screenplays. The 5 moments will beef up your confidence because they offer an objective formula pinpointing exactly when key moments happen. It's a precise structural tool to improve your ability to analyze and organize story structure so you can tell a better story.

If you've read a lot of books on screenwriting then you're aware of certain approximations when it comes to story structure (p. 10-20, p. 50-60, p. 80-90). If you're looking for precise guidance when it comes to story structure, the 5 moments offer a reliable, objective, naturally strong structural dynamic.

When your subject matter means the world to you, you owe it to yourself to know exactly where everything goes. Look at what the professionals are doing. They know exactly where everything goes, don't they? Shouldn't you?

Penis Enlargement? Develop an "Iron Man Penis" Instead?

What is an "Iron Man Penis?"

The dictionary defines an Iron Man as, "A Man of Exceptional Strength and Endurance." You've heard about "Iron Men" competitions - They're the competitions where the men are at their absolute peak of physical strength and perfection. In short, an "Iron Man" is a man who is the best at what he does. No other man is better than an Iron Man.

Iron Man

The concept behind having an "Iron Man Penis" is to develop a penis that is not only fat and long, full of stamina and endurance, and able to respond in a second; but also a penis that is able to ejaculate with intensity, power, and more volume.

Penis Enlargement? Develop an "Iron Man Penis" Instead?

What good is it to have a large penis if your ejaculate is very small? Most women judge a man's sexual masculinity by how fertile he is. A small ejaculate means weak fertility -- A weak man in her eyes.

What good is it to have a large ejaculate if your penis is very small? 'Tis better to have a powerful ejaculate and to be physically enormous than to just have one or the other.

What good is it to have a large penis if you can't last very long in the sack? There's more to sexual pleasure for both involved if the man has staying power. It typically takes women longer to achieve an orgasm than for men. Why not develop yourself to please her as long as you can...?

These questions and many others make one realize that there is more to Penis Enhancement than just developing a larger penis. The key is to excel in every category. It's like the Decathlon. A competition with ten different events that is held over a two-day period. The man who wins the Decathlon is considered, "The World's Greatest Athlete." Why not develop your sexual potential and abilities to become "The World's Greatest Sexual Athlete?" That's what having an Iron Man Penis is all about.

By developing such techniques, one can increase their sexual pleasure, boost their self-esteem, last longer, control their orgasm, improve confidence, increase the size of their penis, increase their ejaculatory output, and have more abilities than the ten events in the Decathlon.

That's what having an Iron Man Penis is all about. To become the absolute best. A Man no other man can even compare himself to.

To learn more about Natural Penis Enlargement and about developing your own Iron Man Penis, come visit us and awaken the incredible-sexual athlete within you.

Enjoy your day.

Learning to Regain Your Trust in Him

Was it a bolt out of the blue, or had you suspected that something was not quite right? Did you think that you had a great relationship, or did you realize that you had some problems. Whatever the situation, your partner betrayed you, and he put you through a great deal of pain and distress. The fact that you are reading this suggests that you believe that your relationship still has the potential to become something more. The problem is that you are struggling with having to regain your trust in him.

In order for your relationship to work, there has to be trust. If you cannot regain your trust in him then your relationship will not work, and if you remain together your lives will be miserable.

Iron Man

It will take a long time for you to regain your trust in him, and it is possible that you will never regain your trust in him. It is vital that you learn how to trust again, and believe in your own judgment, because you cannot go through life being suspicious of everything and everyone, it's not healthy.

Learning to Regain Your Trust in Him

The first thing is that while you have to learn to trust him, he has to work hard to regain your trust in him. You are the victim in all of this, they didn't have to have an affair, but they chose to do so. If they realize how stupid they have been, and if they love you, then they will do just about anything to win your trust back.

You have to be able to deal with your thoughts about the other woman, if you don't then every time that you look at him, you'll think of her. If you know who the other woman is, it is easier to deal with than if you don't. As you have probably noticed, you mind plagues you with thoughts like, is she prettier than me, and what did they do together. I remember seeing a useful trick in one of the Harry Potter films. When your mind starts to plague you with images of her, then picture in a ridiculous situation, or looking silly, anything that changes a powerful and damaging image, into a ridiculous one. Please remember that the longer your mind dwells on the affair, the more damage it will do you, and the more critical of yourself and life you'll become.

Think about the other woman as a sad creature, unable to find a man of her own she has to try to steal someone else's. He chose you, not her.

For you to regain your trust in him he has to be completely open about what he does. He needs to let you know where he goes and what he does. If something happens to change his routine, such as he's going to be late, he has to let you know. He'll have his usual routine, and you'll be familiar with what he does. However, if something unexpected happens to change his routine, then it is natural that you will be suspicious. You can keep an eye on things like his cell phone and emails to see who he's speaking to.

If he says that he's going to do something, then he has to do it, or else have a cast iron excuse as to why he didn't. The path to your be able to regain your trust in him starts with him keeping his word. Every time he says that he will do something, and then he does it will rebuild a little bit more trust for you. He could say that he'll meet you at whatever time, or that he'll take the trash out, every time he honours his word, you will feel a little bit more comfortable in trusting him.

You have to communicate with each other. For your own peace of mind you need to know everything that happened. You need to see that he understands the hurt that he has caused and be able to apologize accordingly. You need to be able to talk about why he cheated on you. You have to be able to identify your relationship problems, and come up with a joint solution to deal with them. You need to be able to work out how you can move forward. You have to be able to just talk again.

If you want to regain your trust in him, you have to regain your trust in yourself. This affair will have damaged your self-belief and your faith in your judgment. I can't tell you when you can start to trust him again, there is no magical formula that can give you the answer, only you can decide when you can trust in him. If he has done nothing to arouse suspicion, if he has done everything that he can to regain your trust and to help heal the marriage, then the chances are that you can trust in him again. Sometimes in life you need to take a chance, and if you don't make that leap of faith then you might lose out on happiness. If you both remain committed to each other, then do your best to build the best possible relationship that you can. The past has happened, you can't change, so instead keep your vision firmly fixed to the future and all the promise that it holds.

Authentic Communication

When training communication skills, regardless of who is doing the training, a lot of similar material is covered (as long as the trainer is half-awake). Training in communication tends to cover voice tonality and modulation, body language, the words used, props (visual aids and so on), eye contact, interaction with the audience, understanding your audience, and so on. We buy into all of these and more, as tips and techniques, but I was reminded this morning of the single biggest driver of great communication - being authentic.

Listening to the Today programme on the way to a session with a client, I heard Adam Shaw interviewing the COO of Eddie Stobart about his company's results, and the interview was such a stark contrast to the majority of interviewees (especially the most groomed politicians) that it stuck clearly in my mind.

Iron Man

The groomed politicians you hear on Today, and other media outlets, have usually had plenty of training, plenty of resource thrown at them to assist their communication, and vast support in developing their answers, opinions and themes. If the basic content of a lot of communication training workshops is correct, we really should be eating out of their hands. I would hazard a guess that we're not though...so clearly the tips, techniques and styles they use are not enough to truly engage me.

Authentic Communication

So then William Stobart came on the radio. I will confess that I initially thought I'd lost a little reception, as their was a pause in his answer to the first question, but, as the interview developed, it was clear that he had a stammer, stutter, or some form of hesitant speech (apologies for any inaccurate use of terminology - it's not an area I profess to be an expert in). This is something relatively rare to hear on the radio in itself, and certainly something that some people, and some training organisations, would try and iron out.

I, however, was delighted that it hadn't been ironed out. William Stobart (despite, or perhaps, in part because of, this factor) came across as a deeply honest, trustworthy, straightforward man who loves his business, his industry, and is happy to openly share his personally held views with a wider audience, without hiding behind weasel words, bland statements, or carefully constructed non-communication.

The simple reason that I was so impressed was not his ability to deal with a stutter - it was the authenticity with which he communicated. Authenticity cannot be trained, as such, but what we work on is training that develops communication skills without removing the character, the personality, and the authentic nature of an individual. Whatever each of our own personal styles are, we can all improve, and improve dramatically in many cases, but I personally resist (and encourage delegates on out courses to resist) any attempts to turn them into clones of the highly groomed, PR trained politicians we hear so much from and believe so little about.

Being yourself, being authentic, might not be the quickest route to success, the speediest way to climb the greasy corporate pole, or the smoothest journey to the top. But I firmly believe that by being authentic, you stand a great chance of getting to where you want to be, and, most importantly, staying there once you've arrived.

Cotard Syndrome - Don't You Realize I'm Already Dead?

I couldn't sleep more than four hours per night. Every face I saw was already rotting, before my very eyes. I couldn't stop seeing the inside of my own coffin, every time I closed my eyes. I had to force myself to eat, because the morbid and macabre images were so palpable, they made me nauseous. More than once, I felt like just running out into traffic, to see the cars go through my ghostly form; more than once, I expected to see the doctors trying to resuscitate me, through a billboard advertisement. I couldn't stop these thoughts, and they became more and more disturbing as time went by. I was afraid to tell anyone, because I was afraid I might be insane... or, perhaps, that my fears were true... that I was already dead.

How did this devastating disorder start? Did I fall from some lofty height, and get a concussion? Did I, suddenly and inexplicably, develop dementia? Had I been hypnotized? No; I was simply given the wrong cocktail of drugs, for an illness on mental health professional thought I had.

Iron Man

This form of thought has a name: Cotard Syndrome. After doing some research, I discovered that it was first diagnosed in the late 1800's, by a French psychologist. He had a patient that came in, who believed that his body was already dead, and simply animated by his own iron will. It was devastating to the elderly man, who wanted to commit acts of suicide to prove he was already dead. The horror of it all is, to the affected mind, it seems to make perfect sense. After all, if the brain does retain an electrical charge up to six months after death, isn't it possible that we're already dead, experiencing some kind of dream of our former lives? Films like "the Matrix" and "the Sixth Sense", and shows like "Buffy: the Vampire Slayer", didn't really help, either: as engrossing as they may have been, they were also disturbing enough to lodge the concept of postmortem mental incarceration deep within my psyche.

Cotard Syndrome - Don't You Realize I'm Already Dead?

How did I get through it? Not easily, that's for sure. The first step was to realize what the Bible says. Unfortunately, the Bible offers what seem to be different perspectives on death, depending on the book and testament. In Ecclesiastes and some of the Psalms, for example, the dead are spoken of as being in an unconscious state of sleep. However, in the New Testament, Christ and Paul both make allusions to existence beyond death. Either way, if you're conscious after death, there's only one destination for you; and it's neither wandering the Earth as a ghost, nor rotting in your own body. No, it would seem to be Hades, where all the dead are kept until Judgment Day; at which time they will be sent either to Heaven, or to Hell, as their final destinations. Either way, you don't remain conscious in your dead body: of that much, we can be certain.

The next thing I had to do, was to decide if I would seek the possibility that I was dead, or live out a life in what could very well be a wonderland of my own design. On the one hand, I've never been one to shun the truth for comfort. I've sought the truth for comfort, yes; but, when it came down to a choice between the two, I always chose the path of self-effacement. In this case, however, I realized that there would be nothing I could do about my death. Even so, if this world was my creation, I would be like the God of this world; which meant I could make a far better life for myself. The pragmatic choice, then, was obvious: I would choose to live in the alleged delusion of life.

My third step was to force my mind to stay off the subject, and defy my own physical revulsions. I would purposefully stare at others, when I saw their bodies rotting before my eyes. I would deliberately force myself to eat, and concentrate on the flavour of the food. I would force myself to block out all distractions - usually by playing Kid Rock's "Only God Knows Why", repeatedly in my head, until I could feel it burrowing through the creases of my own brain, - in order to sleep. I would relish the dreams I had, no matter how morbid, disturbing, or senseless. I forced myself to feel happy, and to take note of every little detail in this life. Soon, I realized that there were too many contradictions in this world - too many differences between this version of reality, and my ideal version (I was, after all, homeless and broke, being forced to take drugs to placate the authorities in my life), - for this reality to be truly of my own design.

The last, and certainly most potentially dangerous, of all the steps was to get myself off the drugs that were, undoubtedly, causing me such distress. Let me tell you: in 100-+ degree weather, severely dehydrated, it's not easy. In fact, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, without the help of a trained professional. In this case, however, it was so distressing, and my transition to another location so imminent, I had no other choice. Eventually, I stopped taking both my medications: Depakote E.R., and Risperidal (500 mg. twice daily, and 50 mg. once daily, respectively). After the near month it took for their effects to wear off, I realized that my cognition was more frantic, but enjoyably so; and I was able to think more clearly. Indeed, I had come to the revelation that I was mainly influenced by two factors: the news about how the last episode of "the Sopranos" ended, and my grievously improper medication.

Cotard Syndrome is still something I deal with every day. I have to constantly remind myself that this is no zombie's nightmare; nor am I some rotting revenant. However, I am now well enough to relegate that theory to an afterthought. I got through it, with some good, old-fashioned deductive reasoning and self-awareness. Sadly, it's often far from being that simple...

If you, or someone you know, have symptoms of Cotard Syndrome, DO NOT seek to commit suicide, just because you think you may already be dead! I cannot stress that enough! You must continue to entertain the possibility that you may be alive, and your brain may simply be malfunctioning, for whatever cause. Get help, from a competent professional, IMMEDIATELY! Most of all, find someone you can trust, and talk about it with them. And remember: one of the ways we know we're alive is because the world is in such bad shape... and one of the reasons we have to live, is because we can do something about it; at least, for those around us.

May God bless each and every one of you, in every conceivable manner.

Discover PhytoMatrix - Validated in Science - 300% More Beneficial to Your Body! Find Out Why

PhytoMatrix is a product from an American public company and is a patented technology not obtainable in a pharmacy or health shop.

To call it a vitamin is a grave understatement because it is very different to the vitamins that you find in any health shop or pharmacy.

Iron Man

As the term Phyto implies, this technology is plant based, science suggest that our body is designed to absorb plant based materials and not rocks because of the molecular structure.

Discover PhytoMatrix - Validated in Science - 300% More Beneficial to Your Body! Find Out Why

Many multi vitamins and supplements that is supposed to provide more calcium, iron and various other minerals are mostly derived from rock that has been made into extremely fine particles and then placed in various different products for us to consume as vitamins and minerals.

I do not know about you but have you noticed that when you pass water it is a yellow color at times. It is because your body could not absorb certain substances and it just past through your system and down the drain.

This is what happen when you use most multivitamin products that are readily available. Now you know why.

PhytoMatrix on the other hand is pant based and studies indicate that it is 300 % more absorbed by the human body than any other vitamin on the market.

All of the products of this public company adhere to the good manufacturing practices laws and are validated in science with the NSF stamp of approval on.

If you try to swallow a rock I think you will agree that a rock will come out on the other end.

This will happen simply because your body does not recognize the molecular structure of a rock to try and absorb it.

If you swallow fruit and vegetables, only waist come out on the other end after the little nutrients that your body was able to absorb had been utilized by your body.

The other fact about PhytoMatrix is that every capsule is standardized meaning that every capsule that you take is the same which is a significant fact because most other products on the market are not standardized in the sense that one capsule or tablet is not exactly the same as the next although in the same container.

So you can be sure that if the label on the PhytoMatrix container says that you need to take two tablets of PhytoMatrix a day for you to have the right amount of xyz vitamins required for your daily intake that this is exactly what you will be benefiting from, no more and no less.

You cannot overdose on PhytoMatrix because it is food and part of Real Food Technology.

A number of wellness companies are going to be shut down due to the fact that they cannot validate what the say that their product are capable of doing as their label indicate.

In the case of this public company they are in compliance with all the legislation and International laws in this regard with validation of their technology with patents on several of their products including the proses of manufacturing PhytoMatrix.

Millions of dollar has gone into the research of discovering how to create the most unique cut above the rest vitamin supplement that would surpass any other supplement known to man and the research and development company that has the patent to PhytoMatrix has done it.

They searched the globe for a plant that has the most absorbent qualities and in a controlled environment let the plant absorb the minerals and then the plant changes the minerals from rock form to plant-form.

Through a further proses they manufacture PhytoMatrix that is then in a capsule form for people to consume and benefit from total absorption into the body without passing yellow colored urine due to lack of absorption.

PytoMatrix is part of "Real Food Technology".

I forgot to mention that this company is the only company that legally may make the claim that their supplements is classed as being "Real Food Technology".

That in its-self put PhytoMatrix in a different league to any other multivitamin on the planet.

So, have you had any rocks to eat this morning or are you some of the elite that benefit from Real Food Technology?

Prostate - How To Keep A Healthy Prostate

Most men over the age of 50 are liable, according to statistics, to get prostate cancer. For American men, about 300,000 new cases are diagnosed each year, and some 35,000 men die of this disease annually. The numbers are increasing as well.

This article is all about simple ways of keeping your prostrate healthy.

Iron Man

What is the problem?

Prostate - How To Keep A Healthy Prostate

The prostate is a chestnut-shaped gland and organ that sits right below the bladder and is wrapped around the urethra. Other than closing the urethra during erection, the prostate has nothing to do with a man's urinary system.

The prostate is needed for ejaculation, as the ejaculate passes through the same urethra as the urine does. The prostate gland's basic job is to add special fluid to the sperm before it exits the penis during ejaculation.

This is why the prostate sits below the bladder, and also why prostate problems interfere with a man's ability to urinate and to have sex.

The prostate is affected three ways:

1. infection

2. enlargement

3. cancer

What are the problem's symptoms?

For infection (called prostitis) there is a great deal of pain, fever, and uninary problems. There are medicines and conventional therapies, however following the dietary rules below are very beneficial for prostitis.

Englargement (known as BHP or benign prostatic hypertrophy) is a non-cancerous enlarement of the prostate. The symptoms are hesitancy in urinating, dribbling of urine before and after urinating, frequent urination, straining to start the stream, urgency of urination, and getting up several times at night to urinate.

Cancer of the prostate symptoms are quite the same as BHP and many men are quite unaware they have cancer of the prostate, as there are often no symptoms at all. A PSA test done every 6 months is now a necessity for every man over 45.

What can be done about it?

Actually a lot. Diet and stress appear to be the main culprits. Here is a list of "do eat" and "do not eat" that is quite time tested.

Eat the following

lots of fresh vegetables and fruits, legumes (peas, beans, and lentils). fresh fish. And especially fish from cold ocean waters (such as salmon, sardines, mackerel, and cod) have large amounts of essential fatty acids. whole grain in moderation, rather than refined (white) breads, pasta, crackers, rice, and other grains.

Dont eat the following

fatty meats, fatty meats, excess of salts, hydrogenated oils, such as those found in margarine, donuts, cookies, cakes, other desserts, potato chips, and other deep-fried foods. canned, packaged, or otherwise processed foods, sodas, alcohol, black teas (which includes most iced teas), or coffee, and dairy foods, especially if they have been pasteusterised.

Are there Special Foods that Can Cure the Cancer?

Perhaps; and this is still a subject open to debate, but chilli peppers have been shown to inhibit the cancerous cells of the prostate. There was a study done recently at UCLA in California which indicate as much.

Also there are several herbs and food additives known for their beneficial action on the prostate. They are:

oSaw palmetto: This herb is now well-known to shrink enlarged prostates and to lower PSA..

oGreen tea: The catechins found in green tea are the likely "medicines" for the prostate, although it is not known exactly how they prevent or combat existing prostate cancer. The usual dose is no less than 6 cups per day.

oPygeum: Pygenum has been used to treat diseases of the prostate and urinary tract for many years.

oNettle: The Nettle is rich in vitamin C, iron, and other proven nutrients that bolster the prostate.

oKelp: This is seaweed, and plentiful in iodine and contains minerals that help to prevent and treat prostate cancer. Asian men, with high doses of kelp in their diet (than American men) have a much lower incidence of any prostate problem.

If you follow the above you will have and keep a healthy prostrate.

Meeting Each Other's Emotional Needs

How can couples meet each other's emotional needs better? How can couples prevent emotional infidelities from happening in their marriage? When two people become bonded through marriage they depend on one another for their emotional needs getting met. But what happens later on down the road? Let's take a look.

* Lack of Intimacy - Intimacy becomes lost because couples have stopped having intimate conversations and alone time with one another. Understand that intimacy and sex is not the same thing. Sex can be intimate, but you can also be intimate without having sex. Intimacy is the closeness a person feels with another. Watching a movie and eating popcorn together on the couch can be an intimate moment between couples.

Iron Man

* Rejected Feedings - When a spouse exerts their opinion, thoughts and ideas and the other spouse invalidates those feelings, a spouse can feel rejected and unneeded. You can keep the fires burning in your marriage by agreeing and supporting one another. Marriage should not be "her way" or "his way" but "both your way", teamwork. How good and pleasant when fellow believers live together in unity. (Psalm 133:1)

Meeting Each Other's Emotional Needs

* Lack of Intimate Conversation - Do you know the person you married? One reason we lose touch with our spouse is because we stop having intimate conversations. We want to feel comfortable talking with and being with the person we married, but did you know that many couples feel uncomfortable being with each other. What causes that? Lack of bonding (intimate attachment) with one another and fear of feelings being rejected.

* Lack of Same Goals, Aspirations - Most marriages have the husband doing his own thing, and he has his own friends and hobbies, and the wife does her own things, friends and hobbies. They are pulling away from each other rather than working to be together and applying teamwork in the marriage. As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. (Proverbs 27:17)

* Confusion of Roles - In marriage the husband has his roles and responsibilities that should be attended to and the wife has hers. Together they make a team because they compliment each other's position in the marriage. But when the wife tries to overthrow her husband's manly protection and position in the marriage, the balance of the marriage becomes upset. It works the other way too. Couples should be working with and encouraging each other so as to compliment each other's position in the marriage.

* Lack of Spiritual Oneness - It's ironic how God brings couples together in marriage, and how couples usually drift apart from each other. They are not basing their marriage on God's truths and principles. Couples need to pray together every day. Reading of the bible and prayer together is a must for a healthy and balanced marriage.

What Happens When The Above Emotional Needs Do Not Get Met

* Lose Love For One Another - Couples lose interest with each other and think they are not in love anymore. Couples desperately need to be encouraging and supportive with the person they married. Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2)

* Building and Harboring of Resentments - When emotional don't get met we tend carry around a negative attitude about the person we married. Faults and weaknesses of our spouse become magnified. We may clam up and think bad of the person we married or we may become angered and say mean things to our spouse, or worse become violent.

Resentments will kill your marriage. Do not let the sun go down in your anger and resentment. Talk about your issues right away. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. (Colossians 3:13)

* Emotional and Physical Infidelities - When a spouse feels unloved, rejected, or dismissed because of the lack of intimacy and spiritual oneness in the marriage, couples go outside the bounds of the marriage to get those needs fulfilled. But this does not work. Let me tell you why.

For you to receive what you need from your spouse, you have to also compromise or sacrifice a part of yourself to "give" back to your spouse. It works both ways-couples need to work together and apply the principles that were designed for marriage. It does not matter whom you are interacting with on an intimate level, you will also need to do the same with them for it to be a happy union.

God teaches us to love on principle not on how we are feeling, but sometimes that is difficult to do. Feelings tell us to go to the other side of the fence for the emotional needs that are lacking in our marriage-this is why there is so much infidelity in marriage. God tells us to go to Him and pray about our circumstances and ask Him for the guidance and answers we need. Which way are you going?

Love must be sincere. Feelings should never be the based on how you love another. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. (1 John 4:8)

Flutter (A Short Story)

Patches of sunlight danced on her feet and on the pavement she stood on as the branches above her swayed with the summer breeze. She looks up and sees a brown butterfly hover closely above her, its paper-like wings glinting with the jagged rays emanating from the tiny spaces between the camachile leaves above them. She holds her hand up and watches it perch momentarily on her rosy little fingers before it flutters off towards the black sedan across the street, towards the man standing by the door of the passenger seat. Slowly, the man turns around and he looks back at her with eyes like her own.

================================================

Iron Man

He traces his fingers on the ruddy cheeks of the young girl in the photo he was holding. Her long, wavy hair was adorned with a crown of angels breath as she smiled proudly in her white, holy communion dress. Tears filled his eyes as he watched her gaze back with eyes like his own.

Flutter (A Short Story)

He looks out the window and sees the playground across the street, scouring the lonely landscape of empty wooden swings and iron see-saws with its chipping orange and yellow paint. He remembers his last afternoon under the shade of the camachile trees.

================================================

"Papa! Look!"

She grins ecstatically as she points up her rosy little finger to the brown insect with paper-like wings hovering above them under the shade of the camachile trees. "Mama paid us a visit!" She looks up at him with a toothy smile. He chuckles and gives her a peck on her forehead. "Hay nako anak.", He sighs, seeing his eyes in his wife's heart-shaped face looking back at him. She turned her gaze back on the brown butterfly that was headed towards the wooden swings and the see-saws. She quickly puts on her yellow flip flops and runs after it.

He neatly folds the red and white picnic spread and follows the giggling child trailing behind the brown butterfly.

She runs past the wooden swings and the iron see-saws, skipping as high as she could to reach the tips of its brown, freckled wings. "Mama, wait for me!" She calls on as she follows it to the middle of the road, oblivious of the speeding car fast approaching towards her.

================================================

"Ikaw na ho bahala sa bahay."

He gives his keys to the house to a stout old lady with greying hair tied up in a loose bun. After giving her a hug and a peck on the cheek, he signals to the driver inside the black sedan and runs towards the passenger seat.

As he reaches for the cold, black handle of the door, something made him want to turn around. Underneath the shade of the camachile tree across the street, he sees a brown butterfly. Its freckled, paper-like wings glinted in the jagged rays of sunlight emanating from the spaces between the leaves.

Society of the Burning Heart and a Passion For God - The Spiritual Journey of AW Tozer

"I've had a lonely life." This is a statement made by Dr. Aiden W. Tozer not long before he died in 1963, aged 66. The truth is he "kept almost everyone he knew at a personal distance" all his life.[1] It is only by tracing back his heritage that we gain but a glimpse of why he was so distant.

He grew up in the tough mountain territory of Pennsylvania in the foothills of the Alleghenies. His father Jacob was a hard working, uncompromising man, completely estranged to sentimentalism. Although he was always very thankful of his heritage, Aiden shouldered a huge burden for the family from about the age of ten, after a fire tragically burned down the family home. Educationally, the McGuffey Readers played a huge role in the Tozer children's education giving strong, Christian-based, moral direction. The fire that significantly interrupted much of the family dynamic the Tozer's had, was later seen as something that brought good, but only after some major pain of adjustment. The fire marked the end of an era and Aiden was never a boy again.[2]

Iron Man

Some books are refreshingly spritely in their representation of truth, and Lyle Dorsett's portrayal of the 20th Century prophet, Aiden Wilson Tozer, a.k.a. A.W. Tozer, is abundant in its accuracy and thoroughly researched.[3] This article is based upon, and summarises, Dorsett's book.

Society of the Burning Heart and a Passion For God - The Spiritual Journey of AW Tozer

The "Society of the Burning Heart," and "meeting God in adoring silence" were always what captivated Dr. Tozer. He quintessentially loved his Lord Jesus Christ, first and foremost in his life. Wrapping the mysticism of God with inerrancy of the biblical Word regarding the theology of the Godhead, Tozer was as spiritually fervent and complete a minister anyone could find. Attracted to Christianity when he heard Matthew 11:28-30 preached, he was burdened and weary for Christ and he found an early encourager to invest spiritually from his soon-to-be mother-in-law, a Spirit-filled zealot for worship.[4] This released within him a call of God that would endure faithfully for the next forty five years.

Even though he was called and very soon responded, he and his new wife Ada were caught seriously short by World War I, with Aiden being conscripted in bizarre circumstances that would have proved to be a major test of his calledness. This part of the story is truly bewildering -- an inspiration of faithfulness.[5]

His ordination on 18 August, 1920 was marked for the reason that he did not celebrate with others afterward; he sought "his Saviour in the secret place" preferring to be alone to pray and seek God's face.[6] His Prayer of a Minor Prophet[7] reflects his ardent desire to follow his 'awful, wonderful, entrancing' God. He prays for protection against the "curse of compromise, of imitation, of professionalism." He said in it, "I am a prophet, not a promoter, not a religious manager." He asked for God instead to "drive [him] to the place of prayer." [8]

Notwithstanding the assertion he was one of the most highly regarded pastors of the 20th Century it's ironic that Tozer was "no example of how to do pastoral work."[9] Yet he was a tower for all ministers, youth, and college-aged people he mentored. His teaching and preaching ministry were said to be of the highest class. Young people saw him as an authoritative figure because he lacked ambition and never pushed his own barrow; he was dignified to an inch.

One of the toughest critics of his own 'profession,' he made his share of enemies both in ministry and beyond. He seriously lamented the decay he saw in the then modern-day church and its compromise regarding biblical principles. Dr. Tozer attributed the 'personality boys' penchant for spiritual compromise as 'nervousness,' and too subject to the world.

Tozer's strong points were many. First, he was an anointed lover of the Godhead. He loved Jesus Christ more than anything or anyone. He worshipped him in truth and spent as much as five or six hours a day (his entire morning six days a week) praying and reading the Bible. He was also quite fiercely ecumenical provided other denominations and leaders supported biblical inerrancy and didn't compromise biblical ideals for worldly ones.

He was a voracious reader, powering through more books and authors in a week than some people would in a lifetime. He also read very broadly into the sciences, history, poetry, philosophy, the arts, and ethics, as well as the early Church Fathers, influences in Church history, and theologians. Second-hand bookstores and libraries were frequent haunts. He took literally the wonder of Psalm 8 and believed strongly in learning all he could about creation. The cliché "All truth is God's truth" was no cliché for A.W. Tozer, and "he was every bit as driven" as secular men, but his motives were "to know God and make Him known," not make money.[10] Above all "he became magnificently obsessive about the shaping of the soul into Christlikeness."[11]

Tozer loved children and routinely met with the children in the Sunday School after services instead of fielding plastic platitudes from well-meaning parishioners after his weekly sermons. Many a mother was delighted that their famous pastor sowed into their son's and daughter's lives in this way.

Tozer's prayer life was astonishing in anyone's language. He would pray kneeling or prostrate on the floor often moaning or weeping as he bathed in the Presence each day. Unflinchingly inerrant in his view of Scripture he would use only the Bible in much of his daily reflections and meditation. His prayer life was the major feeder for his preaching as he sought to know the will of God through personal experience rather than write a 'self-made' sermon. He strongly desired to "experience [truth] before proclamation [of it]."[12]

Tozer's not-so-good points were probably surprisingly numerous -- which is a huge encouragement to the rest of us -- in sum, the ill-equipped, which is all of us. He had the gift of discernment, but using this gift often left Tozer depressed, as he lamented destructive influences affecting the Church and individuals. He often warned his associate pastor Raymond McAfee, "If you want to be happy, don't ask for the gift of discernment."[13]

Althought Tozer was capable in the home, he was anything but an affectionate husband and father. None of his children, with the possible exception of his last, Rebecca, could say they enjoyed any real sense of intimacy with their father; Tozer saved his affection for his Lord. On marrying again after Tozer's eventual death in 1963, Ada Tozer said, contrasting husbands, "Aiden loved Jesus Christ, but Leonard Odam loves me."[14] A summarisation of Aiden and Ada's relationship revealed they both lived lonely, emotionally separate lives. Aiden would often travel and preach, leaving Ada behind. Dr. Tozer also never encouraged fraternisation with his family or Ada's and even actively discouraged it; family holidays were also not his thing.[15]

Dr. Tozer, it's already been mentioned, was not a pastoral carer. He was an opinionated prophet, and even could be called separatist at times.[16] He sensed a "sharp spiritual contradiction" between most pastors and believer's heads and hearts; that in fact they were not 'seekers still.' "They seek and find and seek no more," he said. This was a hideous dichotomy for Dr. Tozer, and it irritated him no end. He simultaneously held biblical inerrancy and spiritual experience like no other. He had nothing but "disdain [for ministers] for materialism, consumerism, and worldliness." He freely criticised ministers and churches for any evidence he saw of this.

Far above all, Dr. A.W. Tozer stands out as the prophetic light of the middle 20th Century; his legacy has been felt very personally and indelibly through Chicago, Illinois, and through the surrounding States within the U.S. Dorsett's offering is remarkably well researched and written. It's a book hard to put down. The book is also a resource; I've gone back to it at various stages.

In With the Nu

AS YOU sit in one of the small and scruffy departure lounges at Kunming Airport, waiting for the connecting flight to Xishuangbanna in the southwest, you turn your attention to two large billboards situated prominently near the windows facing the cluttered airstrip. The posters, with glossy defiance, celebrate the ongoing construction of two large hydropower stations on the Jinsha River, the western branch of the Yangtze. The plants, built also to reduce the siltation pressures on the Three Gorges Dam further downstream, are airbrushed in clean and shiny whites and greys, and the water around them remains a perfect and implausible blue.

They are among many such construction projects currently being considered in Yunnan, where economic development has been given the priority above almost everything else, and where power corporations from the east have been rushing to take advantage. A project that will eventually submerge the celebrated Tiger Leaping Gorge - on the section of the Jinsha north of Dali - is also underway, arousing significant international opposition. The International Rivers Network says that the damage caused by the flooding of the valley to the local 'cultural heritage sites' will be 'irreplaceable'. They are also concerned by the irreversible changes to a unique ecosystem.

Iron Man

Meanwhile, the provincial capital of Kunming continues to grow. The train station, renowned as the most unbearable in the whole of China, is still surrounded by rubble and temporary wooden partitions marking some new road or building. The entire city, cowed by roadblocks and scaffolds, picked at by cranes, seems - like many others in China - to be on the verge of an explosion. As the government slogan announces, peremptory and beyond refute, 'Development is inevitable'.

In With the Nu

In the far west of Yunnan, the untouched Nu River seemed to have been given something of a reprieve a few months ago. China's single remaining virgin waterway, which winds north through some of the province's most beautiful landscape, was about to be given a big seeing-to by the nation's energy-mad authorities. Earlier this year, Premier Wen Jiabao was said to have intervened personally, asking developers to reconsider their plans. Still, one imagines that the 'rape' of the Nu is just a question of time.

The philosopher, Martin Heidegger, chose to illustrate the two different approaches to nature by comparing the construction of a bridge with the construction of a hydroelectric dam. Modern technology, he wrote, was 'a manner of unprotecting' nature. A bridge, connecting up the two banks, shows 'respect' for the river, but a hydropower station actually turns nature into part of its own 'inventory'. The power plant is not built into the river, but the river is built into the power plant.

To illustrate the difference in perspectives, Heidegger compared the Rhine as part of the inventory of modern technology with the Rhine described in a poem by Holderlin. After it has been devastated by technology, the river remains as 'a provided object of inspection by a party of tourists sent there by a vacation industry'. Such a description seems appropriate in modern Yunnan. While the power companies work their way through the region's rivers, foreign and domestic tourists have transformed old cities such as Dali and Lijiang, and plans to improve the transportation infrastructure to the west and to the south will see the character of prefectures such as Xishuangbanna and the Nu River changed beyond recognition.

There are a number of small bridges connecting the banks of the Nu, but the favoured means of crossing by the local farmers seems even purer than that. Hooking themselves into a harness consisting of a rope and a piece of flat canvas, they sweep back and forth at massive speeds on a cable attached to a couple of trees, and carry bags of cement, grain and sometimes even livestock between their knees as they do so. One farmer agreed to carry me. Slung across the grey autumn waters and into a patch of worn grass on the Nu River's left bank, the bowel-shaking fear quickly gave way to a sense of exhilaration.

I was taking a long ride from Dali with an incompetent local tour guide to the town of Liuku in western Yunnan, right on the bank of the Nu River. The area is a picture of health, ruddy and rugged and robustly green. Farmers spin past on motorbikes, trading chunks of meat with local guest houses and restaurants. At one stop along the way, situated on a bend on a country road, a three-legged horse skipped past - cheerfully enough, considering the circumstances. The half-whistle, half-bleat of the local birds could be heard everywhere. Tiny communities lived in wooden shacks on the hills, emerging on Tuesdays to trade at the local markets.

It was tempting to call the place quaint, and worthy of any preservation order that might be made to stick. It was, however, dirt-poor, and though much better and much more lively than a decade or so ago (according to our guide), most of the people living here would love to replace their stilted huts, their latrines, their drafty outhouses, with new buildings and indoor plumbing.

Usually, it is only outsiders who get sentimental. We, after all, can go home somewhere else. One isn't entirely sure that the life of the poor throughout China would be improved by any degree were their barns, their slums, their shanty towns to become 'heritage sites'. On the other hand, it is clear that the mass destruction caused by economic growth is not of much benefit to the communities affected. It is also clear that the ecology of Yunnan - one of the most varied and vibrant in China - is being put under threat.

Still, crossing the upper reaches of the Mekong, watching the silt-filled, chocolate-coloured waves and negotiating the old van past the piles of rocks cast down during a recent landslide, one cannot fail to be impressed somehow. I have been bruised, stupefied and generally thrown about by hundreds of poor-quality roads throughout China. Here, the biggest challenge was the occasional ford cutting across a narrow but mostly impeccable mountain pass. In harsh conditions, the road builders had performed well.

Roads are the big thing in Yunnan. Plans are underway to complete a regional high-speed road network that will connect Kunming with Singapore. Coming back from the wild elephant park in Xishuangbanna, we were halted by a fleet of trucks and steamrollers inching along to assist a team of miscellaneously-dressed labourers spreading grit across the tracks. Above us was the skeleton of an overpass, its bare stanchions planted in the fields nearby. The old road will eventually become superfluous for the majority of freight traffic surging through the region and into southeast Asia. Things will change, we thought, and Jinghong, the region's major city but run at a painfully slow pace, will no doubt be brought up to speed by an opportunistic migrant population from Sichuan or the northeast.

LIUKU is a small urban centre and trading spot for the hundreds of small counties and villages scattered throughout the area, several hundred kilometres west of Dali. Whatever purists might think, the locals would love it if streams of tourists were suddenly to pour in from the more fashionable areas further east, but apart from the way it nestles comfortably - if a little chaotically - in the mountains running along the banks of the Nu, there is little to distinguish the place. Its greatest advantage is its location, and visitors note the great potential of the riverfront, where a couple of cafes now provide much of the town's nightlife.

As one enters the town, an old Ming Dynasty temple lies on the mountain above the intersection of the Yagoujia River and the Nu River itself. As is customary, the temple appears as if it was built out of papier mache and painted yesterday morning by industrious local schoolkids. A huge laughing Buddha decked out in gold paint seems to dominate the gaff from his little stage. Dogs patrol the high steps, and spiders, each two inches long, nest in the frames of doors and in the overhead lights.

Across on the other side of the river, the effects of the previous night's rain storm were clear to see, with policemen knee-deep in mud and the road - the only route north - blocked by piles of displaced rock.

The foreigners, so prevalent in Dali, and less so in Jinghong further south, were nowhere to be seen. Hardcore travellers head north to see the enclaves of Tibetans, or the old ethnic ways of the Lisu, the Nu and the Drang nationalities. Some come to see the immense volume of indigenous butterflies, with a couple of Japanese collectors even managing to steal a few rare specimens under the noses of the local authorities a few years ago. There were also stories of a pair of American travellers crossbowed in the back by Lisu hunters after trying to abscond with some significant local religious icon - the man with the story wasn't quite sure what the object was. The rest of the local legends about foreigners involve them being attacked by Tibetan dogs and carried out of the forests, bleeding. Still, foreigners here are once again the objects of fascination, rather than the sort of seen-it-all-before scorn one gets in Shanghai, or the dollar-sign gazes in Dali and Lijiang.

Guidebooks such as Lonely Planet abhor the current pace of Chinese development, of course, and as the years pass and the new editions enter print, the laments about the high-rises and highways seem to get longer and longer. China is losing its character.

We can understand this. And yet, after a week on the road along the Nu River, speaking no English and staying in the dingiest of guest houses, we still longed for the pizzas, banana pancakes and foreign influences in Dali. Many agreed, and many long-hatched tour plans are thwarted by the magnetism of the town's bars and cafes. Some foreigners on year-long tours find themselves stuck, unable to leave, trapped in a perpetual marijuana haze and remaining lucid enough just to teach a few classes in the main city and pay for their lodgings.

Travelling further north from Liuku on the way to Fugong the following day, rain clouds lingered like smoke on the mountains, and dozens of blue, three-wheel buggies chugged down the slope on the only road out. We drove through building sites, where workers squatted on dunes of mud, and through villages in which cattle and old nags wandered wearily past, and where tiny, friendly little dogs lounged on almost every stoop. Streams of water, bloated by a heavy rain storm the previous evening, cascaded into the rough Nu waters.

We stopped off in a small market village called Gudeng, close to the Binuo Snow Mountain, and watched the local farmers manhandling a couple of disobedient black pigs. Another offered us a glass of warm corn liquor he had just produced at a makeshift stove attached to a dirty plastic pipe. The dominant presence in the town was the family planning centre, where government slogans about improving the quality of the population were pumped out from a pair of loud speakers, drowning out the Chinese disco beats emerging from the market itself. Apart from the family planning centres, there are other things that seem ubiquitous throughout China, from Xinjiang to Shanghai and from Guangdong to Yunnan. One of them is the pool table. Another is the bill poster advertising cures for sexually-transmitted diseases.

WE CAME to understand that in the pretty little town of Fugong, where we spent Mid-Autumn festival, the local residents - mainly of Lisu minority - would also have longed for the sort of opportunities afforded to Dali. Cafes, restaurants, and a place on the tourist trail would revitalize the place, and would ultimately be of far more value than a hydropower station. Can the two be disconnected? Some of the villages along the banks of the Nu River didn't even have a watt of electricity until the last decade. It is a fact of life that further development - including the tourist industry - requires more power.

Purists are unlikely to consider the contradiction, and may indeed prefer to slum it - for a week in any case - in tents or in the dingy, second-rate guest houses available en route. Still, the woman at the reception of the guest house in Gongshan seemed apologetic. 'Are you sure you want to stay here?' she said.

Heading across the river, we came across a large wooden public house built on an old water mill. Wheels driven by the Nu River itself churned away beneath a section of rooms lined with soggy woven carpets and old Lisu paraphernalia - the traditional costumes and weaponry of the bulk of the local people. A dozen girls from a local hair salon were dancing in the middle of one of the stages on the upper tier of the building, moving two steps forward and two steps back, hand in hand. They greeted us favourably, encouraging us to join in their drinking games. We had a 'one-heart drink' (tongxinjiu) - where two people drink from the same glass, their cheeks and mouths touching - with every one of them, the sweet local liquor dripping onto our clothes.

Hours later, after crossing the bridge again and singing Lisu songs as we parted company with our new friends, we managed to stumble through a tunnel and into the grounds of the local Public Security Bureau, where the Fugong police were also celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival with a form of dance which, by the time we started to participate, seemed to involve running at top speed while kicking our legs as high as possible in the air. Local police chiefs, conforming to the stereotypes of drunkenness that seem more or less international, told us that national boundaries didn't matter, and that friendship transcended all countries. We agreed.

The next morning, driving out of the town and past a long row of old wooden buildings with red sliding doors and a range of shoddy garages that serve as shops and diners, we headed for Gongshan along a spectacular stretch of scenery, part of a 300-km gorge lined with waterfalls, brooks and white cloud pierced by the mountains on both banks. Houses seemed to balance precariously on the plateau, only a storm away from complete collapse. Women carried large squares of corrugated iron along the slopes, their children following.

The whole Gongshan region, an old man in the guest house told me, has now been renamed the 'Three Rivers Gongshan Region'. 'They are creating a trademark,' the man said, shrugging his thin shoulders. The Mekong, the Nu, and the Jinsha all pass through before reaching their source, and the local government are trying to draw in the trade.

The town itself, another sleepy cluster of apartments, restaurants and trading posts all piled up in layers along the slopes leading from the river to the mountain, was actually far from untouched. As was the case in Liuku, the missionaries had already been and gone, leaving a curious legacy of Roman Catholicism among the local minority communities. Mothers sat weaving on the steps of a church - a square, squat one-storey affair with a bright red cross built on the mountain - waiting for evening prayer. Prayer notices on the wrought-iron door of the church were transcribed in a romanized version of the local Lisu language. Some hours later, an implausible disco beat pounded out from a wooden house further up the hill, and the church was empty.

A Tibetan girl, working in a curious entertainment complex close to another Catholic church further down in the valley, asked us if we were fellow believers. She answered to her Catholic name of Mary, and was from Dimaluo, an ethnic mishmash of Tibetans, Lisu, Drong, and others some way further north along the river. There was a sadness to her as she told us her life story, about her stalled education, about the death of her father after a sudden and inexplicable 'infection', and about her preference for the countryside from which she hailed.

In the stores nearby, posters of Zhou Enlai, Sun Yatsen and the Panchen Lama swayed slightly in the wind, and beneath them lay the usual clutter of mooncakes, cigarettes and cheap, defective batteries.

What worried us about 'untouched' places like Fugong or Gongshan was not so much the prospect of development, and the 'exploitation' or 'despoliation' or 'swamping' of the local culture and character, but the thousands of local residents, educated to a degree, certainly aspirational, but cut off even from the possibility of ambition, marooned in a remote town that is linked to the nearest city only through a single mountain pass that requires two days to traverse. As we did at the Three Gorges, we started to wonder whether the sacrifice of the local scenery could somehow be made worthwhile, if it could allow these people a way out. After all, it might be more appropriate to judge the vitality of a culture by its porousness, and more pertinently, by the opportunities it gives its members to escape and try something new.

Heidegger hated the way the Rhine had become an object of the tourism industry as well as the hydropower industry, but on the Nu River, we had to allow for the fact that the proposed construction of an airport in remote Gongshan, the construction of highways, and the development of local industry might actually be good for the area, in the absence of any other options. Heidegger hated TV and spent most of his final, disgraced decades in a wooden shack in the Black Forest, but he had choice. The local residents in Fugong and Gongshan have TV, and they see the glitter of wealth and opportunity. But they have no wealth. And no opportunity.

And yet, the 'current mode of development' is all about exploitation, and the further enrichment of China's east coast at the expense of the west. The scenery is ruined, the ecology is damaged, and old farming communities are moved to nearby urban slums, where they have little prospect of work or prosperity. Here, as in the Three Gorges and other regions, one imagines that the local people will reap little of the rewards of 'opening up'.

Stop and Forget All You Think You Know About Penis Enlargement

Men are barraged every day with numerous ads and information about penis enlargement. This information comes from magazines, newspapers, the Internet, and even television. With so much information what is the proper route to take to discover a penis enlargement program that works best for you?

No doubt, most men who are interested in enlargement have done a bit of research on the subject. But let's stop and forget about what you've discovered and what everyone is telling you is the best method to utilize for success.

Iron Man

First of all, it's okay to want to improve yourself. Hey, no one is perfect, certainly not me; and we all have our positive gifts and gifts that need working on. The first thing to realize is that wanting to improve this part of your body is normal and acceptable.

Stop and Forget All You Think You Know About Penis Enlargement

Now to the nitty-gritty as to what method works best. Remember, let's pretend we don't know anything about penis enlargement.

On one hand, you have creams, patches, and over-the-counter pills that all seem to utilize the same substances to get results. Okay, we understand this. Logically, does it make sense that these sorts of things are actually going to increase your penis size? Some magic chemical is going to make you grow while you sleep? Studies show they don't. If they did, the drug companies would be all over these so fast, to market them for themselves, that it would make your head spin.

Then we have external devices such as weights, traction units, magnets, and pumps. Weights and traction units do get some great results, but they are cumbersome, uncomfortable, and can be dangerous. Pumps are great for creating an erection but don't give much in the way of big increases in size and they have to be used for a long time. Magnets are another story.

You also have the surgical method. While it can be used as a last resort, considering infections and failed-penis surgeries, this is one part of my body I'd rather try a more conservative approach first. Also, it can be quite costly. But it is an alternative for some men.

Then you have Natural Penis Enlargement which utilizes your hands and body to simply "work out" your penis using simple exercises. Some of these exercises, such as jelqing, are believed to have been used for centuries to help men enlarge their penises. This form of enlargement can also be done in private, in your own home, and at your own pace. It's relatively inexpensive. You purchase a book that shows you what to do and you go about your business. Think about it. If you want to Physically enlarge your penis, doesn't it make sense that you will have to apply Physical effort in order to do so?

Every man should make his own decision of what he feels is the best approach for him. Personally, I've used the Natural Penis Enlargement method using simple exercises and had great results.

If you'd like to learn more about Natural Penis Enlargement, read IRON MAN PENIS - THE RUSSIAN SYSTEM and learn how to put the "LARGE" in Penis Enlargement.

Enjoy your day,
Georg von Neumann

Why You Will Love Zumba

If you take the time to think of all the different weight loss programs, workout regimes and miraculous exercise equipment that claim fast and effective results, then you're more likely to miss the solutions that actually deliver. It's no secret that losing weight takes time, even though some companies will advertise their fast fat-burning products as helping you shed those kilos in just days. To reach your ideal weight in a healthy manner, you may need to see through these gimmicks to ensure you can get that weight off and keep it off. This is the trick: keeping it off.

You know, there is a solution when it comes to healthy weight loss. You don't need to spend endless amounts of money on bulky gym equipment, miracle weight loss pills, intense cardio torture led by aggressive boot camp leaders. Unless you want that iron-man look, of course. Some of us just want a lean body though and regular work on particular muscles that we need to use everyday.

Iron Man

This is where we come to the answer. I don't want to sound like those infomercials shouting out how incredible their products are, because this is nothing like that at all. It's fun, invigorating, exciting and simple.

Why You Will Love Zumba

One word: Zumba.

I know what you're thinking-'I'm too uncoordinated for that. That's for people who know how to dance.' You're thinking it because with the word Zumba comes the words Latin dance and a whole bunch of moves that sound way too scary to be done without proper training. First thing you need to do is get that notion out of your head. A majority of people who attend Zumba classes have probably never taken a dance class in their life; let alone a Latin dance class.

Zumba is all about forgetting how uncoordinated you are, taking the time to try something new and exciting, and leaving your anxieties at the door. If you're worried about people laughing at you, then you need to understand that everyone in the class is going to be far too busy laughing at themselves to even glance in your direction.

If you don't believe me, then you need to get out there and see for yourself. When you've done that, come back and I'll say, 'I told you so!'

Now, if you're still not convinced, let's ponder for a moment on the benefits of Zumba. You can lose up to 500 calories in a one-hour class. That's equivalent to 45 minutes jumping rope, walking for two hours, or mowing the lawns for an hour and a half. Unless you can't get enough of mowing lawns, why not just attend a Zumba class? You will get your body moving and shaking to hypnotic beats and you'll work up a sweat, but you'll be left wanting more.

So do yourself a favour and become Zumba-crazy. After one class you'll wonder why you were so worried to begin with. Zumba is so much fun you'll forget you're even working out. Like they say, it really is just a party!
